Colombian police have arrested Juan Camilo Muñoz Gaviria, suspected of killing Sara Millerey González, a transgender woman who was viciously murdered on April 4. González was subjected to horrific violence: raped, beaten, and thrown into a ravine. Disturbingly, witnesses filmed her struggle to escape rather than assist. Following public outcry, a special task force was formed to pursue the suspect, and police are seeking additional suspects involved in the crime, reflecting ongoing violence against the LGBTQ+ community in Colombia.
"In an investigative action coordinated by the Attorney General's Office, CTI personnel and the police arrested one of the alleged perpetrators of the murder of a trans woman, whose given name was Sara Millerey González, in Bello, Antioquia, on April 5."
"Rather than helping, some witnesses recorded her on video trying in vain to escape the ravine and stream, which they later posted to social media."
