In June 2024, San Bernardino police officer was suspended after being recorded striking a man, Billy Lee Hill, with a baton 16 times during an arrest. The incident, involving three officers, was triggered by a report of a stolen motorcycle. Body cameras and bystander footage captured the struggle and excessive use of force, leading to a departmental investigation which found the actions out of policy. The officer now faces scrutiny from the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training for misconduct.
The department has completed the investigation and concluded that the use of force was out of policy, resulting in discipline for the involved officers.
