A beloved sculpture known as the People's Throne in Acton Gardens, Ealing, was destroyed in a suspected arson attack. Created by local artist Adebayo Bolaji, the piece was intended to uplift the community following the Black Lives Matter movement. Witnessing the destruction on his birthday was especially painful for Bolaji, as the sculpture symbolized local pride and community interaction. Erected in 2023 as part of estate regeneration, it became a gathering spot for locals and children. Its loss has left the community heartbroken, highlighting the cultural significance of the artwork.
The People's Throne was meant to uplift the community and foster interaction, serving as a meaningful space for gatherings and joy since its installation.
I definitely was not the best thing to wake up to something like this on my birthday. It's not great, especially because of what it stands for.
