The Islamic Cultural Centre in Clonskeagh, Dublin, announced its temporary closure following a significant incident related to governance discussions that escalated into turmoil. The management emphasized concerns for community safety, especially regarding children at the Muslim National School. A notice indicated that a full investigation and enhanced safety measures were needed. Community response has been strong, with over 2,000 signatures on a petition voicing commitment to the centre's future, underscoring its vital role in Muslim worship and community service in Ireland.
The decision has been made with the utmost concern for the safety and well-being of our community, especially the children of the Muslim National School.
We, the undersigned members of the community, write this petition to express our profound concern over the closure of the Islamic Cultural Centre of Ireland (ICCI). As the largest place of worship for Muslims in Ireland, the ICCI has been a cornerstone of our community for decades.
Furthermore, we cannot overstate how vital the ICCI is to our lives and the essential role it plays in serving the community.
The incident was an unprecedented and distressing attack on the mosque, centre and board members on April 19 that left management with no choice but to temporarily close the centre.
