Wildfires rage across Spain and Portugal as record area of land burned

Wildfires in Spain and Portugal have reached record levels due to extreme heatwaves and drought exacerbated by climate change. More than 20 significant blazes are active, with over 343,000 hectares burned in Spain alone, surpassing past records. Spain is receiving firefighting support from France, Italy, Slovakia, and the Netherlands, while Portugal is aided by air support from Sweden and Morocco.
Virginia Barcones noted that 23 blazes in Spain are classified as operational level two, posing direct threats to surrounding communities.
