The author shares their experience of a problematic co-op session in Elden Ring Nightreign. After two hours of seamless gameplay, unwelcome matchmaking troubles emerged, leading them to lose momentum and desire to reset the match. The inability to quit without risking penalties—a potential loss of multiplayer access—frustrated the players even more. Their attempt to coordinate a game over didn't work as planned, resulting in a chaotic return to the same disastrous session, highlighting the lack of options for cleanly exiting a match and the game's overall coordination tools.
Returning to the title screen came with a warning: doing so could revoke multiplayer access. So we tried to game the system - literally - by dying at the same time, which would normally trigger a game over.
It’s wild that there’s no way to cleanly reset a match, even when everyone in the group agrees to it. Penalties make sense when you’re punishing random players for rage-quitting mid-fight.
