"Mountains with predictably purple peaks drew a serrated line along the horizon. Above them iron grey cumulus warned of a gathering storm. On a plain beneath the sloping hill, moving inexorably towards an obsidian wall protecting an alabaster citadel, several armies converged. Ralph turned to the gaunt grey figure standing a few steps away, cocked a sceptical eyebrow and muttered: "Seriously?""
"The grey figure - scraggy beard, wizened skin and broad-brimmed hat with floppy crown - rustled his cape and toyed with his staff for a moment. He wore a name badge, Ralph noted. A white rectangle with 'Mage 101' embossed on it. "It's just a simulation," Mage said after a moment. "Would you rather this, or pages of contracts and legalese?""
Ralph Englebert finds himself transported into a medieval battlefield despite expecting legal advice. Mountains and iron-grey clouds loom over converging armies as an alabaster citadel is protected by an obsidian wall. A gaunt, grey-clad figure with a name badge reading 'Mage 101' appears and admits the scene is a simulation. The figure contrasts virtual spectacle with pages of contracts and legalese. Ralph searches the plain for his army, noting purple banners and green livery, and struggles to reconcile the simulated war with his original, mundane purpose for entering the Reality Distortion Field.
