"The Red Sox have called up four of their top prospects this season, and a fifth is making a strong case to also pitch in the majors before the 2025 season ends. Payton Tolle had a strong showing in his most recent outing with Triple-A Worcester on Friday. The lefty allowed just one run on one hit, zero walks, and nine strikeouts over five innings in Worcester's 9-3 loss to Jacksonville. Of the nine strikeouts, four came off whiffs."
Payton Tolle quickly advanced through the Red Sox farm system to become their top pitching prospect. The 22-year-old left-hander posted a five-inning outing for Triple-A Worcester allowing one run on one hit, zero walks, and nine strikeouts, with his fastball reaching 98.6 mph and whiffs generated by his fastball, slider and curveball. He followed a scoreless five-inning start against Iowa and has allowed one run over his past 14 innings, raising his K/9 to 13.1. The Red Sox moved Walker Buehler to the bullpen; Tolle could still be considered for a September call-up despite an unlikely immediate rotation spot.
