"There are so many stories to tell and Boston is a fantastic base from which to tell them."
"Some of the biggest stories happening right now in America with significance to the entire country are the pressure on higher education, the cuts to federal funding, the huge endowment taxes, the ideological pressure on universities, as well as the pressure on the health sector."
"a dream come true,"
Indira Lakshmanan is returning to Boston to co-host NPR's Here & Now on WBUR alongside Scott Tong and Robin Young. She worked in Boston for 30 years, including as a local reporter and foreign correspondent for The Boston Globe from 1993 to 2007, then served as a columnist and foreign correspondent in Washington, D.C. Lakshmanan studied art history at Harvard and has family ties to the Boston area. She described the move as a homecoming and a dream come true, noting Boston’s advantages for covering national issues such as higher education pressures, federal funding cuts, endowment taxes, ideological pressures on universities, and strains on the health sector. Her return coincides with federal funding threats to public radio.
