Tommy DeCarlo, Lead Singer of Boston, Dead at 60
"It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our Dad, Tommy DeCarlo, on Monday, March 9th, 2026. After being diagnosed with brain cancer last September, he fought with incredible strength and courage right up until the very end. During this difficult time, we kindly ask that friends and fans respect our family's privacy as we grieve and support one another."
"DeCarlo had the unenviable task of replacing founding Boston singer Brad Delp, who tragically took his own life in 2007. He was discovered by founding Boston guitarist Tom Scholz after posting covers of Boston songs on MySpace, at the time working as a credit manager at his local Home Depot in Charlotte, North Carolina."
"He recorded one album with Boston, 2013's Life, Love & Hope, which remains the band's only studio LP since the passing of Delp. Outside of his work in Boston, the singer formed his own eponymous band DeCarlo, releasing the album Lightning Strikes Twice in 2020."
Tommy DeCarlo, who served as Boston's lead singer for approximately 19 years, passed away on March 9, 2026, at age 60 following a battle with brain cancer diagnosed in September 2025. He replaced founding singer Brad Delp, who died in 2007. DeCarlo was discovered by guitarist Tom Scholz after posting Boston song covers on MySpace while working as a credit manager at Home Depot in Charlotte, North Carolina. He recorded one studio album with Boston, 2013's Life, Love & Hope, the band's only LP since Delp's death. Beyond Boston, DeCarlo formed his own band and released solo work, including Lightning Strikes Twice in 2020 and Dancing in the Moonlight in 2022. He announced his retirement from performing in October due to health issues.
