You may complain about the T, but a new ranking says it's one of the best in the U.S.
Boston’s public transportation system spans centuries, from harbor ferries in the 1600s to today’s MBTA trains and buses. Travel + Leisure ranked Boston third among nine U.S. cities with the best public transportation systems, excluding New York City. The ranking emphasized that Boston’s bus network reaches neighborhoods not served by train, supporting practical car-free living. The MBTA was described as one of the easiest ways to move between neighborhoods, especially during heavy traffic from graduations, construction, and major events. The Commuter Rail was recognized for connecting riders to destinations outside the city, including Salem and Gillette Stadium, while reducing traffic and parking issues. The MBTA also faced criticism for delays and weather disruptions tied to infrastructure improvements, with free shuttle buses provided during planned interruptions.

The Commuter Rail is currently offering summer promotions aimed at making fares more affordable and accessible ahead of major events like the World Cup, Tall Ships, and 250th anniversary celebrations."
