Coach Marco Sturm removed David Pastrnak and Pavel Zacha from late-game action after Boston fell 4-1 to Colorado, citing that the top players did not perform. Colorado’s top line of Nathan MacKinnon, Martin Necas, and Artturi Lehkonen generated three goals and 16 shots on Jeremy Swayman, while Boston’s top trio produced one shot. Sturm emphasized that the best players must be their best and praised the fourth line for killing penalties and doing heavy work. Casey Mittelstadt was made a healthy scratch after failing to register a shot. Pastrnak responded to the benching and public challenge.
