Drew Carter, the play-by-play voice for the Boston Celtics, has committed to running the Boston Marathon to raise funds for the Shamrock Foundation, a charity aimed at helping children in need. The idea sprouted during the Celtics' championship parade when he expressed interest in running the marathon. While Carter has running experience from high school, this will be his first marathon. He has been diligently training since December and has familiarized himself with the marathon route, embracing the challenge with humor and preparation.
"We were on the floor level of the Garden about to head out for the parade, and I told my friend Dave Hoffman, 'Hey, I think it'd be pretty cool to run it.'"
"Once I was all signed up, then it was, 'All right, you either train and raise some money or you're going to be in trouble on April 21st.'"
"I mean, everyone says make Boston your first marathon. It's so easy, it's the most straightforward one."
"I've done my homework on all of the landmarks and storied stretches along the marathon route."
