The original Cape Cod bracelet is famously hard to get. Now it's going online-only, ending a longtime tradition.
Briefly

The iconic Eden Hand Arts, known for its unique Cape Cod bracelets, has decided to transition to online sales due to overwhelming demand that rendered its ticketing system ineffective. Customers found the ticket reservation process, often compared to a 'hunger games' scenario, difficult and frustrating. Starting July 2, the jewelry will be available for purchase on Etsy, marking a significant shift for the small business. Owner Rachel Carey-Harper noted that the previous system was not sustainable for their tiny shop, reflecting a necessary adaptation in light of new consumer expectations.
"It was really clear we couldn't go on like this," the owner, Rachel Carey-Harper, told the Globe. "We're a tiny little business."
"It was like the hunger games," said Kristin O'Toole, a teacher from Wilmington who has five bracelets purchased over many years of Cape trips. "It was survival of the fittest."
