Vermont BEAD Update: State Can Reach 95% of Locations With Fiber
Briefly

The Vermont Community Broadband Board (VCBB) reports that 96% of underserved locations in Vermont are covered by applications for the VT-BEAD Program. With a budget of $228.9 million, the application phase has successfully reached 95% of eligible locations requiring fiber access. There are 32 project areas with 16,895 serviceable locations. Currently, five broadband service providers are involved, though their names remain undisclosed. The VCBB aims to reach all unserved/underserved locations and is still evaluating final project costs, anticipating strong funding to meet the needs of all eligible areas in Vermont.
The dollar value is hard to define since some entities submitted more than one proposal per area and we don't yet know which we'll select.
We anticipate having enough funds to serve all U/U BSLs with our BEAD allocation.
Vermont distinguishes between BEAD projects that are dominated by fiber and those using other technologies.
CUDs aim to raise money to support high-speed broadband available through grants, debt and donations but not taxes.
