The Cardinals selected the contract of outfielder Nelson Velázquez and recalled catcher Jimmy Crooks. A vacancy on the 40-man roster existed after left-hander Jared Shuster was designated for assignment. Velázquez filled the open roster spot. On the active roster, infielder César Prieto was optioned to Triple-A Memphis. A catcher was also optioned to Triple-A Memphis. The team indicated additional information would follow.
