Despite increasing pressure from fans, Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow is committed to taking a cautious approach regarding Roman Anthony's promotion from Triple-A. The team is currently struggling with their record at 28-32 and high expectations have not been met. Anthony, performing well with a .303 batting average and eight home runs in Triple-A, could boost the team. However, Breslow emphasizes balancing individual player development with team needs, particularly looking towards 2025, and considers the impact of their current lineup's structure on Anthony's potential success.
"We're trying to balance what's best for Roman and his development with where we are as a team and the way that we're prioritizing our 2025 season," Breslow told reporters.
"It's impossible to ignore the performance he's had in Triple A and how that is lining up with our struggles here in the big league level."
"Inserting Anthony into the lineup is far easier on paper than in practice, too. While Ceddanne Rafaela's season-long struggles offensively are glaring, his defensive presence has been an asset."
