Padres Among Teams Interested In Sandy Alcantara
Briefly

Padres are exploring trading options involving right-handers Sandy Alcantara and Dylan Cease, both of whom are underperforming. Acquiring Alcantara could offer rotation stability beyond the current season, despite their similar upside. Cease has a contract that will lead to free agency next year, while Alcantara is signed through 2026. The Padres face financial constraints which complicate these transactions, as they also seek assistance in other positions.
San Diego's interest in Alcantara comes less than 24 hours after it was reported that they've been willing to discuss fellow righty Dylan Cease with other clubs.
If the Padres were to trade Cease and acquire Alcantara, they would essentially be swapping out - not directly for one another, of course - two pitchers of comparable upside.
The Padres' baseball operations staff isn't believed to have much financial flexibility at its disposal presently.
Turning and adding Alcantara would about $1.153MM onto the current payroll - and do so at a time when the Padres are also looking for help in left field and behind the plate.
