Red Sox 7, Blue Jays 1: Taking Care of Business
"The Sox are doing what's been asked of them, by getting wins and taking series in the midst of this final gauntlet to the postseason. The Blue Jays have spooked the Sox all season, especially in Toronto, but Boston has taken this series when it may matter most. There was lots of good stuff for me to write about today!"
"Garrett Crochet: You couldn't have asked for a better start from him, and he was so efficient against the slumping Blue Jays that he was able to go 8 innings. His final line was 8 IP, 3 hits, 0 runs, 0 walks, and 6 strikeouts. He also hit 250 strikeouts season strikeouts and became the first Major League pitcher to do so this year!"
"Masataka Yoshida: Hit an RBI double in the first and then his third home run of the season in the fifth. He's picked an excellent time to heat up! OB and Loumer were talking about how well Yoshida hits in Toronto, but he really hits well in the home fields of opposing AL East teams. Check his track record!"
The Red Sox are securing wins and taking series at a critical point in the postseason race, including a key series win over the Blue Jays. Garrett Crochet delivered an eight-inning, dominant start (8 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 6 K) and reached 250 season strikeouts as the league's first pitcher to do so. Carlos Narvaez hit a three-run homer that iced the game. Masataka Yoshida provided early offense with an RBI double and a home run. Trevor Story went 3-5, Nathaniel Lowe struggled but helped in the prior game, and tensions flared with Blue Jays ejections.
