Red Sox to give Jhostynxon Garcia, one of their top prospects, reps at first base
Briefly

Jhostynxon Garcia, a top Red Sox prospect, will play first base in Triple-A Worcester this season because of an overcrowded outfield. The specific timeline for his transition is unclear as other players are currently taking more reps at this position. His performance in Triple-A, hitting .298 with a .921 OPS, could secure him a big league spot this season. Moving to first base may enhance his long-term future with the club, despite ongoing trade discussions involving his name. Competition for the first base role remains, particularly with Casas' recovery ongoing.
Highly-touted Red Sox prospect and outfielder Jhostynxon Garcia will get reps at first base in Triple-A Worcester at some point this season, Red Sox farm director Brian Abraham told The Athletic's Jen McCaffrey.
Even if it's a long shot, a move to first base could theoretically allow Garcia to make the big league roster this season, considering Boston's use of platoon players at the position since Triston Casas's injury in early May.
Switching to first base would seemingly help Garcia's chances to remain with the Red Sox for the long haul.
The Red Sox included him in offers for Twins pitcher Joe Ryan and Marlins pitcher Sandy Alcantara ahead of Thursday's trade deadline.
