Series Preview: Boston Red Sox at San Diego Padres
Briefly

Boston Red Sox travel to San Diego after winning both series during a homestand. The Padres, led by active GM A.J. Preller, engage in aggressive trades but did not acquire Jarren Duran. With both teams closely matched in standings, former Red Sox players like Xander Bogaerts and Nick Pivetta are highlighted. Bogaerts improved his performance significantly in the season's second half, while Pivetta excels with a 2.73 ERA. Michael King, a successful transition from reliever to starter, has also shown impressive statistics with San Diego.
The Padres enter the weekend at 64-51, 2.0 games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL West. Boston, not considered a favorite for most of this season, is at 64-52.
Pivetta has been cruising. His 2.73 ERA would be his best for any season...as would his 3.20 FIP. A lot of his underlying numbers aren't too far off from his time in Boston.
Michael King is one of the recent reliever-turned-starter conversion success stories. He came over from the Yankees with a 3.34 FIP and has put up almost the same mark in many, many more innings in San Diego.
After starting the season with an OPS in the mid .600s, Bogaerts picked this up in June and July putting up a .784 OPS with 4 homers and 5 stolen bases.
