The Minnesota Twins are sending infielder Jose Miranda to the minor leagues following a baserunning mistake in a recent game against the Tigers. Manager Rocco Baldelli criticized Miranda's lack of awareness on a play that cost the team a scoring opportunity. Furthermore, Miranda's performance has been subpar this season, with a dismal .143 batting average and a high strikeout rate, indicating struggles at the plate. This move coincides with the expected return of another infielder from injury, highlighting the competitive nature of the roster.
Jose has to do better on that play. The guy on the other side of the field was not on the bag and Jose didn't make it to the bag on the slide either way.
It's fair to point out that the decision may have come strictly for performance reasons even ignoring today's blunder. Miranda has struggled badly this year.
