The Big Sur Marathon, facing disruptions due to the pandemic and a mudslide in the previous year, is set to return to its traditional route this year with over 5,000 participants. Race organizers, led by Jennifer Edwards, are optimistic despite challenges faced, including disruptions in prior years. The course was altered last year due to a mudslide that closed part of Highway 1, but repairs are ongoing, with some lanes now open for the marathon. Efforts are underway to ensure traffic management and runner safety during the event.
Persevering, though, is what runners and race organizers do. And while the weather gods can be unpredictable, the return of the traditional, bucket list course is back for this year's 38th running.
We've worked closely with Caltrans and the CHP to make sure we have a solid plan in place for traffic management and to make sure runners can safely cross.
