John Irmer, 71, pleaded guilty to the 1979 murder of Susan Rose in Back Bay. He confessed to the crime in August 2023 at an FBI office in Oregon. Irmer's confession followed a period of sobriety and a spiritual awakening. He described meeting Rose in Boston and subsequently attacking her with a hammer, leading to her death. After the murder, he stole her wallet and discarded it in the Charles River. Irmer also admitted to other violent crimes, which are under investigation.
