Boston Mayor Michelle Wu celebrated 30 independent businesses with the Boston Legacy Business Awards, honoring their contributions to the city. Most awardees have been part of Boston's neighborhoods for over 10 years, primarily in the food industry, for a total of over 1,200 years of service. This initiative encourages community involvement, with over 1,450 nominations received from residents. The awards aim to highlight the significant impact of small businesses on neighborhood vitality, ensuring their stability for future generations. A ceremony honoring the awardees will take place on June 3 at Calderwood Pavilion.
According to the Mayor's office, the 30 independent businesses recognized this year span various neighborhoods in Boston and are primarily in the food industry.
Mayor Michelle Wu expressed, "Our legacy businesses are a driving force of support, resources, and connection across our neighborhoods," highlighting their importance.
Chief of Economic Opportunity and Inclusion, Segun Idowu, emphasized the impact and commitment of small business owners, stating, "...this initiative continues to ensure the stability of these community bedrocks for generations to come."
