The Old Stone House in Park Slope unveiled its newest installation, 'Things Fall Apart: Meena Hasan at the Old Stone House,' which explores connections between the Battle of Brooklyn and British colonialism in India. The project involves artist Meena Hasan and historian Dylan Yeats, sparked by Imran Khan's curiosity about historical links between South India and Brooklyn. The installation is inspired by British commander Charles Cornwallis, who transitioned from the American Revolutionary War to becoming Governor-General of Bengal, defeating key opponents like Tipu Sultan. The initiative aims to make historical events relevant to today's audiences.
"What happened after Cornwallis lost America, he went to India and won India for the British," Khan explained. "I just had these random facts that I hoped was like a party line, 'Hey, do you know this?'"
The installation draws a connection between the Battle of Brooklyn and British colonization in India, highlighting historical ties that resonate with contemporary audiences.
