Following Pope Francis's passing, a mural in Bay Ridge, created by artist Delphinoto, has become a focal point for remembrance. The mural symbolizes the Pope's teachings on caring for the environment and advocating for the poor, inspired by his encyclical 'Laudato Si'. Delphinoto emphasizes the mural's role in fostering interfaith dialogue and addressing humanity's impact on nature. The project highlights a community deeply connected to both faith and environmental issues, including perspectives from many non-Catholics who resonate with the Pope's humanitarian message.
During COVID, I started this project called Art For Laudato S inspired by Pope Francis and his Laudato Si which is a document about integral ecology and caring for creation and cries of the poor and cries of the Earth.
The larger pattern is man's encroachment on the environment, how we reckon with that. He really just wanted people to think about this more deeply and go back to Pope Francis of Assisi who was super connected with nature and man's relationship to that and honor in God's creation.
