Brooklyn senior center provided community and care. Now, it's shut amid a lease dispute.
Briefly

A Brooklyn senior center closed temporarily in July after its lease expired, disrupting services for seniors. The center, which had operated for 51 years, faced a significant rent increase that was unaffordable. Although funds have been secured, the Executive Director cannot agree to the landlord's terms which require the center to cover all repairs and upgrades. The closure affects over 40,000 annual visits from seniors for meals and social activities, leaving their future uncertain.
Amador stated, "If something broke here in the senior center, we don't have money to pay for it. For example, if the elevator broke, we don't have money."
The senior center's closure interrupted 51 years of operation after its lease ended on June 30 without a new one in place.
