The Brooklyn Public Library will temporarily open a branch in Carroll Gardens this July at 250 Baltic St, while its historic library undergoes renovations after 120 years of service. The Carroll Gardens Library closed in July 2023 for upgrades, including new teen spaces and improved fire safety. Originally slated for completion by 2025, the timeline has been extended to 2026 due to unexpected structural needs. Local officials and IKEA Brooklyn partnered to support the pop-up branch, ensuring continued community access to arts and culture during the wait for renovations.
"This library is an incredibly important anchor for families across Carroll Gardens and beyond and so many of us have been missing its presence during the renovation."
"When libraries close, we lose more than books. We lose a culture of reading, joyful discovery and lifelong learning."
