Brooklyn City Councilmembers Shahana Hanif and Jennifer Gutiérrez initiated the Brooklyn Laptop Fix-a-thon to address the upcoming expiration of Microsoft Windows 10 support. This event aims to mitigate the projected e-waste from obsolete PCs as users are expected to upgrade to Windows 11. Volunteers will refurbish 45 donated laptops, which will be utilized for digital literacy programs in their districts. With additional contributions from TechFIN, over 100 refurbished devices will help local residents bridge the digital divide, supporting community literacy efforts and reducing electronic waste.
