Driver In Fatal NYC Crash That Killed Mom, 2 Kids Gets Prison Time In Plea Deal
"This horrific fatal crash was one of the worst I've seen in over 25 years as a prosecutor. It wasn't an accident. This defendant's unconscionably dangerous driving wiped out a family, Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez previously said."
"The lives of Natasha Saada and her young daughters were stolen by the callous choices of a chronically reckless driver on Ocean Parkway," Gonzalez said in a statement."
Miriam Yarimi, 33, pleaded guilty to manslaughter for a March 29 crash that killed 35-year-old Natasha Saada and her daughters Deborah, 5, and Diana, 8; Saada's 4-year-old son was critically injured. Yarimi initially faced charges including criminally negligent homicide, second-degree assault, reckless driving, aggravated unlicensed operation, and speeding, and had pleaded not guilty in April. Prosecutors allege Yarimi rear-ended a Toyota Camry, was traveling at more than twice the speed limit, and ran multiple red lights before striking the family. Prosecutors sought a five- to 15-year sentence; the plea carries three to nine years. Sentencing is scheduled for Wednesday.
