"This was a tragic accident and our sympathies are with the family of the deceased. Our crew was not cited at the scene and suffered no injuries,"
"At the time of the accident, our ambulance was responding to a call and following all policies and protocols. They immediately stopped to render care to the individual until other first responders arrived on scene. We are cooperating with NYPD investigators."
"He was going home. He was visiting us, where I live,"
"We're literally not even four blocks away from where it happened. Just four blocks."
The collision occurred just before 1:10 a.m. on Ashland Place near Willoughby Street in Fort Greene when a southbound e-bike struck a northbound NYU Langone Hospital ambulance. The ambulance crew had been searching the area for a man in distress at the time. Medics transported Lynwood Wilkerson, 65, to Methodist Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The ambulance driver, a 21-year-old woman, and two crew members, a 29-year-old woman and a 28-year-old man, were also hospitalized. NYU Langone said the crew followed policies, rendered care, and is cooperating with NYPD investigators. A nephew said Wilkerson was returning home four blocks from the crash site.
