After the tragic May 17 collision of the Cuauhtémoc with the Brooklyn Bridge, surviving crew members will resume their training on the vessel ARM Usumacinta. The Mexican Navy aims to continue their mission of providing humanitarian aid, marking the event during Navy Day celebrations. The transition from the wind-powered Cuauhtémoc to the heavily equipped ARM Usumacinta indicates a shift towards modern naval training, as the navy seeks to rebuild and continue its maritime traditions and responsibilities.
The crew aboard our ARM Usumacinta (A-412) has sailed national and international waters, braving the seas to bring humanitarian aid and hope to those most in need in disaster situations.
The powerful vessel - which took part in a multinational training mission organized by the US Navy's Third PacificFleet, RIMPAC2024, last summer - uses propulsion engines.
