"Over the pandemic, I really developed a sense of community with the other neighbors in very close proximity to my own apartment and just felt like I was really dialed in and connected to the people in Park Slope,"
"I felt like I would be kicking myself if I didn't inquire,"
"Rider, the name itself, is based on riding the wave of life,"
"I really believe in the power of gifting in general,"
Alma Lacour founded Rider, an independent gift shop operating two Park Slope locations. Lacour moved to Park Slope eight years ago and strengthened neighborhood ties during the early pandemic. A background in advertising and experiential production preceded her decision to rethink her career and pursue retail. A vacant drycleaner near her home presented an opportunity that a community-minded landlord supported, enabling Lacour to open the store. Rider's name reflects an approach to 'riding the wave of life.' The 1016 8th Avenue location feels warm and whimsical and offers curated home goods, art objects, children's items, and design-forward pieces.
