The Roman Catholic Diocese of Brooklyn ordained seven new priests during a Mass held at the Co-Cathedral of St. Joseph. Bishop Robert J. Brennan presided over the ceremony. The newly ordained include two men from Mexico, one from France, one from Colombia, and one from Nigeria, in addition to two Brooklyn-born men. Among them are Fr. Robert Ruggiero, a former director of religious education, and Fr. Gerardo Tlatelpa, who moved to Brooklyn from Mexico. Each priest has diverse professional backgrounds prior to their religious vocations.

Fr. Robert Ruggiero, raised in Red Hook, served as a director of religious education and pastoral associate in the Diocese of Brooklyn before his ordination.
Benoit Chavanne from France confirmed his priestly vocation through mission trips with a Brooklyn-based non-profit before being assigned to Regina Pacis parish.
Fr. Gerardo Tlatelpa, originally from Mexico, became active at Our Lady of Refuge Church in Flatbush before entering seminary and will serve St. Michael parish.
