What Will the Neighbors Say?, a nonprofit theater group, was excited to receive a $15,000 grant from the NEA for their new play "At the Barricades." However, the anticipated funds were delayed and ultimately rescinded in May. The NEA's email cited updated funding priorities focusing on select cultural projects, leaving the theater group struggling to meet their production needs and expressing deep concern over the lost support which was meant to enhance their project.
"With every week, every month that went by ... and the funds weren't available, we began to become increasingly concerned that they would never come," Hood Adrain said.
"The grant was 'the final piece of the puzzle' to take the production to the next level."
