Bankrupt, structurally unsafe Brooklyn Mirage files for demolition Brooklyn Paper
"The permit was filed on Oct. 10, as was first reported by The Real Deal, and seeks to demolish 32,000 square feet of a three-story temporary structures to the tune of $1.5 million. Though the permit does not specify that it is for the Brooklyn Mirage, the venue was outfitted with three layers of temporary structures earlier this year as part of the massive renovation that ultimately led to Avant Gardner's downfall."
"On Aug. 21, DOB ordered Avant Gardner to bring the Brooklyn Mirage into code compliance through removal or repair, city records show. Previously-filed permits for construction at the Mirage have been withdrawn. Avant Gardner did not immediately return a request for comment. It was not immediately clear how or if the demolition might impact the other venues at the East Williamsburg complex, The Great Hall and The Kings Hall."
Avant Gardner filed a demolition permit on Oct. 10 to remove 32,000 square feet of three-story temporary structures at the Brooklyn Mirage, with demolition estimated at $1.5 million. The venue was outfitted with three layers of temporary structures during a major renovation earlier in the year. A planned May 1 reopening was canceled after the Department of Buildings deemed the venue unsafe, and the Mirage remained closed despite promises it was nearly show-ready. DOB inspections found structural and fire-safety deficiencies requiring extensive work. On Aug. 21 DOB ordered compliance through removal or repair, and previously-filed construction permits were withdrawn. Avant Gardner filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in August, and the demolition's impact on The Great Hall and The Kings Hall remains unclear.
