JOST unveils next-generation BusLink system, with focus on zero emission buses - Sustainable Bus
"Building on proven reliability, the new BusLink focuses on three key areas: lightweight design, optimized insulation, and enhanced lighting. "Weight reduction remains our top priority," explained Roland Ramírez, Director Program Management Global BusLink at JOST. "We have refined the welded construction to achieve further weight savings without compromising structural strength. At the same time, we are testing innovative bellows materials that improve thermal insulation. A crucial step for electric buses, where air conditioning significantly affects energy consumption.""
"Another area of innovation is lighting. JOST engineers are developing translucent and illuminated materials for the articulation area that allow more natural-light-like illumination into the bus interior, simulating the effect of windows. In addition, a new segmented bellows design incorporates an integrated LED strip, providing brighter and more even lighting throughout the walkway to enhance passenger comfort and safety."
JOST's next-generation BusLink articulation system targets lightweight design, optimized thermal insulation, and enhanced lighting to improve efficiency and passenger experience. Welded construction has been refined to cut mass while preserving structural strength, and new bellows materials are under test to raise thermal performance—critical for electric buses where HVAC affects range. Lighting innovations include translucent materials and a segmented bellows with integrated LED strips to simulate natural light and brighten the walkway. Production occurs at a specialized Polish facility combining advanced welding, machining, coating, assembly, and testing capabilities to deliver safer, more sustainable articulated mobility.
