Doug Lebda unexpectedly died in an all-terrain vehicle accident on Sunday. LendingTree leadership deeply mourns his passing and extends condolences to his loved ones. The board described Lebda as a visionary leader whose drive, innovation and passion transformed the financial services landscape. Scott Peyree has been appointed chief executive officer effective immediately, and Steve Ozonian will become chairman of the board. Shares of LendingTree fell more than 2% by early afternoon trading. Lebda founded LendingTree in 1996 to simplify the loan shopping process; the platform launched nationally in 1998, went public in 2000, was acquired by IAC, and spun off in 2008. Lebda also co-founded Tykoon in 2010 and previously worked at PricewaterhouseCoopers.
