"Everyone needs a Joan in their life."
"my best friend, my rock, my guiding light, my world"
"I often make up my mind about someone within 30 seconds of meetings them, and I fell for Joan almost from the moment I saw her. Joan was a down-to-earth Scottish lady and I quickly realised she wouldn't be impressed by my usual antics."
"She was beautiful. She was bright. She was witty. She was down to earth. She was fun. And she had eyes made of magic."
On November 15 Richard Branson posted an image on Instagram showing the couple dressed for an evening out, champagne in hand, captioned "Everyone needs a Joan in their life." Followers responded with affection. He later announced that Joan had died and paid tribute, calling her "my best friend, my rock, my guiding light, my world." Their relationship began in 1976 when Branson first saw Joan at The Manor recording studio. Joan, born in Glasgow in 1945, worked a number of jobs and was described by Branson as down-to-earth, witty and having "eyes made of magic."
