New MetroWest grocery store closing after less than a year
"As a growing company, we regularly evaluate our store portfolio to ensure alignment with our strategic goals,"
"While closing our Framingham store was a difficult decision, The Fresh Market continues to focus on growth, and we eagerly anticipate the opening of four new stores by early 2026."
"All items in the store, excluding alcohol and gift cards, are now 25% off."
The Fresh Market will close its Framingham location and is issuing layoffs for 50 employees effective Dec. 14, per a WARN notice. The store opened less than a year earlier and held a ribbon-cutting on Dec. 11. Closing timing will depend on when store inventory sells out; most items are currently 25% off, excluding alcohol and gift cards. The Framingham site at 84 Worcester Road previously housed a Bed Bath & Beyond that closed in 2020. The Fresh Market is headquartered in North Carolina, operates 172 stores in 22 states, and is majority-owned by Cencosud with Apollo Global Management as a minority owner.
