Claire's filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and will close 291 store locations nationwide while keeping 830 stores open, according to Aug. 20 court documents. The company reached a deal with private holding company Ames Watson that paused the liquidation process at a significant number of stores. Ames Watson said it aims to preserve Claire's legacy and invest in its future by maintaining a substantial North American retail footprint. The chain previously filed for bankruptcy in 2018 when it operated about 1,600 U.S. locations. Six Massachusetts stores will close and 11 Massachusetts locations will remain open.
As we continue through our restructuring proceedings, our team has worked tirelessly to explore every option for preserving the value of the Claire's business and brand,
