"Governments worldwide recognize the importance of promoting high-potential start-ups and the institutions that fund them."
"no EU company with a market capitalization over EUR 100 billion...has been set up from scratch in the last fifty years, while all six U.S. companies with a valuation above EUR 1 trillion have been created in this period."
Governments worldwide prioritize promoting high-potential start-ups and the institutions that fund them. Europe has produced few homegrown mega-cap companies in recent decades. No EU company with market capitalization over EUR 100 billion has been set up from scratch in the last fifty years, while six U.S. companies with valuations above EUR 1 trillion were created in that period. This gap indicates weaker scale-up dynamics and less effective venture financing in Europe relative to the United States. Strengthening start-up ecosystems, scale-up pathways, and funding institutions is central to improving European competitiveness.
