"Trouble has been brewing for quite some time with Main Street Sports Group (MSSG), the company behind FanDuel Sports Network ("FanDuel" - not to be confused with the other FanDuel, which is a gambling outfit), home of dozens of professional sports teams' regional broadcasts, including the Atlanta Braves. Late last year, MSSG failed to make a scheduled and required payment to the St. Louis Cardinals, according to multiple reports."
"The short version is this: MSSG has been trying to sell itself to DAZN, although reports indicate that deal may not happen and a second party may be involved. Multiple reports have suggested that if MSSG were to not sell to DAZN, they would end their broadcasting at the conclusion of the NBA and NHL season. Last week, that timeline changed,"
MSSG failed to make required payments to the St. Louis Cardinals and multiple NBA teams, raising concerns about its ability to fulfill broadcast obligations. MSSG pursued a sale to DAZN, but that deal may not close and a different buyer could be involved. If MSSG does not sell, broadcasts were expected to end after the NBA and NHL seasons. All nine MLB franchises slated to air games via MSSG opted out of their agreements, creating immediate distribution uncertainty. MLB has previously intervened by taking over club broadcasts and adding in-market streaming on MLB.tv. The Atlanta Braves are expected to remain stable given their large national fan base and sustained viewership.
