"I know he is proud of me and his family, Kevin Nishita's widow Virginia Nishita said after the Alameda County District Attorney's office secured the rare first-degree murder plea."
"I am numb with exhaustion. I have been faithfully in these courtrooms for four years, waiting for this day to come. And here it is."
Three men are set to be sentenced for the shooting death of retired San Jose police officer Kevin Nishita, who was killed in 2021 while guarding a TV news crew. One man pleaded guilty to first-degree murder, while the other two admitted to robbery. Virginia Nishita, the victim's widow, expressed her desire for a life sentence without parole but accepted the plea deals. Alameda County District Attorney Ursula Jones Dickson stated that the pleas were based on strong evidence in the case. Virginia Nishita has been seeking justice for four years.
