78-year-old Bay Area man pleads not guilty to possessing child porn

Jack Mayblum, 78, pleaded not guilty to a felony charge of possessing or distributing child pornography and was arraigned in Department 4. Mayblum has a 1982 conviction for a lewd and lascivious act on a child and arrived in a wheelchair, wearing a striped jail jumpsuit and shackles. Deputy Public Defender Matthew Adler entered the not-guilty plea after Mayblum said he could not read and Adler noted mobility issues. Judge Marlo S. Nisperos denied release citing public safety and set bail at $55,000. The case was assigned to Judge John B. Ellis, with readiness and preliminary hearing dates set for Sept. 12 and Sept. 15. Mayblum was arrested Aug. 28 after a CyberTip prompted a search warrant and recovery of evidence; he was one of four Vallejo men arrested on CSAM charges.
A 78-year-old Vallejo man on Tuesday pleaded not guilty in Solano County Superior Court in Fairfield to possessing or distributing child pornography, a felony. Jack Mayblum, previously convicted of committing a lewd and lascivious act on a child in 1982, entered Department 4 in a wheelchair to face jail arraignment on the charge. Clad in a striped jail jumpsuit, his hair and beard silvered, he was shackled.
As previously reported, Mayblum was one of four Vallejo men Sheriff investigators arrested last week, all on charges of possessing or distributing child sexual abuse materials (child pornography). On Aug. 28, the Sheriff's Office Investigation Bureau, acting on a CyberTip received from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, arrested Mayblum on suspicion of possessing child sexual abuse material (CSAM).
