Yonston Vazquez, 31, was arrested in Mexico by the FBI and extradited to Livermore on suspicion of fatally shooting two people at a La Quinta Inn on April 27, 2024. The victims were Lizabeth Murillo-Rodriguez, 26, and Christopher Vera, 21. Vazquez reportedly contacted family members trying to justify his actions and said where Murillo-Rodriguez could be found, claiming a struggle over a firearm. Surveillance footage and witness statements indicate he coerced a clerk for a room key, forced entry, fired shots, and fled to a nearby car. Vazquez was booked into Santa Rita Jail.
Authorities arrested 31-year-old Yonston Vazquez on suspicion of fatally shooting two people at about 6:45 a.m. on April 27, 2024 at a La Quinta Inn in Livermore, police said. Police previously alleged Vazquez killed his longtime girlfriend, Lizabeth Murillo-Rodriguez, 26 and Christopher Vera, 21, who was in a hotel room with Murillo-Rodriguez when they were shot. The killings marked Livermore's first two homicides of 2024.
Vazquez reportedly later contacted family members to attempt to justify his actions and say where Murillo-Rodriguez could be found. He claimed he found the two victims in a hotel room together and that he struggled over a firearm with Vera, causing it to go off. Video and witness statements from the hotel later painted a different picture of that April morning.
Evidence allegedly shows Vazquez coaxed a hotel clerk into giving him a key to the room Murillo-Rodriguez and Vera occupied. Surveillance footage showed Vazquez attempting to force entry into the room and then kicking the door open, authorities said. Gunfire was heard shortly after and then Vazquez fled to a nearby car with a firearm in hand, police said.
