In Calif. celebrity enclave, one of the best summer experiences is free
Briefly

Montecito is known for its affluent residents but also hosts a free public treasure, the Miramar swimming raft, a buoyed platform enjoyed for over a century. This 15 by 15 feet raft floats off Miramar Beach, allowing many to play games and create lasting memories. Originating from the old Miramar Hotel, the raft has remained a nostalgic centerpiece for generations of Santa Barbara locals and visitors, enduring through significant changes in its surroundings.
The Miramar swimming raft continues, as it has for more than 100 years, to bring joy to the general public - and not just to the ultra-wealthy and movie stars that make their home in Montecito.
The swimming raft is a buoyed platform about 15 by 15 feet, big enough to park a VW bug. It can even accommodate eight local teens playing a game of spike ball.
Decades and generations of Santa Barbara residents and visitors have made memories here, and it continues to find its way anchored offshore during the summer months, despite the massive changes that have taken place around it.
The platform was a marquee feature of the old Miramar Hotel, an early California oceanfront destination.
