Los Gatos, Saratoga map out fire hazard areas with help from the state
Briefly

Los Gatos and Saratoga have recently updated their fire hazard severity zone maps, reducing many areas classified as very high fire hazard. The maps, created by the California Department of Forestry and Fire, reflect improvements in modeling and science, considering factors such as slope, vegetation, and weather. While some neighborhoods express concern over relaxed designations, significant reclassifications from very high to moderate or high have occurred, especially in the hills surrounding both towns. The towns approved these maps in early June, changing hazard assessments from past classifications established in 2009.
