"What he created here was really remarkable and it's just really sad,"
"It's something that is a free cultural event in the community at a place where people feel really welcomed. And Anthony was the heart and soul of that,"
"I think everyone should attend and show support. It's important and much needed,"
Anthony Anderson, known as 'Anthony Ant,' was a trumpet player who led free Thursday-night funk jams at the Starry Plough in Berkeley. A memorial sits at the venue as patrons recall his role as the heart and soul of that community event. Investigators say Anderson called 911 early Monday saying he had a gun and wanted to harm people. Alameda County Sheriff's deputies arrived outside his home near San Leandro and opened fire, reporting that Anderson posed an immediate threat. The California Attorney General's Office is investigating the shooting under Assembly Bill 1506. The Starry Plough will host a live-music tribute Thursday night.
